The Oldies

Z100 was my first radio love, but KISN FM was my second.  Not sure how or why we got into listening to "The Oldies" station, but it was probably inevitable that all that wonderful music from the 60's and 70's would find its way into our young hearts.

The Oldies List so far . . .

Here's something that really freaks me out that I just realized as I was preparing to write this.  The songs that I loved in Elementary school on popular radio are now older than many of the songs I listened to on the "Oldies" station when I was a kid.  Some of those songs seem like yesterday but they are now "Oldies'.

My friend Liz says to find the good "Oldies" I should look at the Stand by Me Soundtrack.  And there is no doubt that popular movies throughout my life have helped introduce me to amazing music from the past.  Speaking of my friend Liz from St. Matthew's and youth group.  I think my strongest memory of 60's and 70's music is listening to my friends from youth group:  Neil,  Diana, Liz, Jamie, my brother, and many others on our trips to Seattle with my mom.  We would listen and sing and have a wonderful time.

Another strong memory is singing the Beach Boys in the car on the way to the beach with my brother and my friend, Chris.  Thank goodness David Lee Roth covered "California Girls" in 1985 or we might never have discovered the Beach Boys.  In retrospect, it seems crazy to lump all the popular music of the 60's and 70's into one category.  As we listened we started falling in love with some of those bands.  So now bands like the Beach Boys and the Beatles are amongst my favorites.  But other wonderful musicians that I have not explored as much remain in the "Oldies" pile.

Here is the beginning of my "Oldies" section of the Life Mixed Tape: Link.
I am not got ready to add to the "Life Mixed Tape" because I know I have many more songs to find.  Let me know if you have suggestions.
