The 80's

Life Mixed Tape

The other day, I was listening to Aroon Karvna’s massive playlist from the 90’s and smiling to myself while reliving memories when another song popped up that I hadn’t heard in a long time: https://open.spotify.com/user/aroonk/playlist/0AobtqBqO5K8g4rYxe1kjY
This playlist is what first brought me to Spotify a couple of years ago. I read about it in a blog and I gleefully listened to it for free.

I finally decided to get a paid account on Spotify, and I enjoy the freedom of listening to old favorites and new finds wherever I am. But, in the old days, I used to listen to music on CDs and cassettes, and I enjoyed making mixed CDs for my friends and family. I don’t think anyone has CD players anymore. The world keeps shifting and changing.

The CD ( mixed CD, tape cassette, and mixed tape) are all dead for most of us, especially people younger than myself. That’s when it hit me. I should make a new kind of mixed tape for myself. One that has everything. My own personal radio station. There is no limit to the amount of songs I can add. I can start from the beginning of my music listening life and work my way through the years. Maybe, I could share it with friends and family via the interweb, the way I used to share my tunes with a shiny piece of round plastic.

One reason I want to share is because my friends and family were all there. I love listening to old music to remember the people, places, and events where I first heard these songs. So without further ado, here it is, my “Life Mixed Tape”: https://open.spotify.com/user/ungerlu/playlist/3NcehB2hQNpYCPHyQMZQ8D

Starting with the 80’s. The main influence was Z100 and Top 40 radio. I remember listening to the Casey Kasem countdown the hits on Saturday morning. A little battery powered radio I could take outside and listen to while doing yard work. Then of course, there was New Year’s Eve and listening to the top 100 hits of the year. MTV and videos were only a luxury enjoyed when I was at someone’s house who had cable.

Enough for now . . .
